Research
I chose to do my object in the Aztec time period in their main city Tenochtitlan because I really liked the aesthetic of their sculptures and the materials they used. However, the more I research the more I was interested in the culture especially surrounding their religion. The PDF below is a brief synopsis of the research I did and the links to website, videos, and books I watched. This research helped me decide the purpose of my machine as I wanted to lean into the religious aspect of the culture. I also decided to market my machine to the upper class so I could add a lot of the beautiful sculptures and materials they made.
My research on claw machines
I researched claw machines with a lot of differences in how I research Aztec culture. I mainly watched videos on the mechanics behind them and how to make them without electricity.
After seeing how complicated and how much string you need to add to make a claw machine with no electricity I decided to modify it to be a hook and have the prize being a box with a handle so it’ll be easier to get. I also decided on the main components of a working claw machine the claw should be able to move side to side and up and down and it should have an empty hole for the prize to fall down. I factored this all into my design process.
