The Horror’s of Rigging – FMP

This was so painful, using advanced skeleton for the body gave me false hope for the face rig. As it kept failing so sadly i realized i had to make the face rig manually. This process has taken me most of January due to the dissertation and working on other aspects of the film (unwrapping, texturing, improving storyboards and layouts). It was very difficult to find tutorials of just making the face rig as most go through the whole rigging process. I ended up finding one which helped me alot as i found ways of adapting it to the advanced skeleton rig.

At this point i have managed to give the character a complex eye control system and a simple upper mouth rig. I decided on this due to the modeling of the moth being so simplistic it doesnt need too many controls to create the effect I’m after.

For the mean time, I’ve decided that this is enough facial rigging for the blocking stage of the animation as I will start with body mechanics. This is good for me as I need a break from this, and working on it while animating will allow me to approach my scenes with fresh eyes more. However, through this process, I have become more proficient in rigging so rigging Juules swill be a lot faster, especially due to him not having a mouth.
