Rigging
This is the first thing I’ve ever rigged and my model was going to be quite challenging to rig so I decided to watch multiple YouTube videos to determine the best approach (the videos linked below). After watching these and doing some research I tried three different ways to do it. I first tried skeleton joint rigging which wouldn’t work for my rope as it wouldn’t look natural enough, but I’m glad I tried it as I ended up using the skill in my final approach. I then tried to do a rope simulation like the video example down below. However, it was very difficult to manipulate as I would have to have the rope move to the side and I could do the anchor point in the twist as I wanted the end of the rope to be down at the side and not on the knob. Then I did a few different combinations of things but I found a motion path had a good result but it looked bad on the twists so I decided to do an illusion. I made the motion path to go through the twists and have the twists separate and parented with the knob to rotate together. I think this solution was the best one I could do with my experience and time frame and came out with a good result. I also parented the hook with the knot in the rope so it would stay together and allow the hook to swing separately from the rope.
